Groundhog day.

So i've begun with my stint at the law firm, and this is my first time doing some real work and having a feel of what real work life is. The only other real job thing i did was when i relief taught at ri back in 2004, but its really quite different altogether an experience. for starters, teaching is actually fun. and for another, you get all these little breaks in between lessons where you can go to the pantry to sit down, have a cup of coffee, milo, oh there's an array of food and drinks for you to choose from, and read the papers. i don't get this luxury working here. i sit at my desk all day long, unless i go to court but thats more tiring than sitting at my desk because i actually have to take down notes through the day and typing all day long is not fun. i typed 47 pages of notes at a court hearing yesterday and i was so zonked by the time i got home yesterday i couldn't even afford myself the luxury of enjoying american idol on tv. i've never seen myself so discplined before- i come home, get exactly a one hour nap, and continued with work. yes, there's work to be brought home if i go to court because that means work in the office piles up while im sitting in on a trial that is really quite interesting considering there's eye candy.

The trial i've been sitting in on is about an acs teacher allegedly molesting a couple of boys. we're acting for the teacher and its really interesting watching my senior counsel cross examine the witnesses. she's really brilliant and assertive, just the way a good female lawyer ought to be. Yesterday's trial was rather entertaining because the boy was trying to describe where the teacher molested him. and in his bid to waffle about, he said that he thought that the penis and the testicles were the same thing. and then my senior counsel enlightened him, and he just said, "oh i didn't take bio." he's eighteen mind you.

But anyway, though work's stressful and intense- i don't think i've ever used lexis and westlaw so much in my life, the little things make all the difference in the world- bumped into friends alot around raffles place. on monday, i bumped into york, who's probably working at drew. on tuesday, a friend dropped by for lunch. on wednesday, i bumped into bernia at the family courts, and today, i bumped into jiahuan who's working just a floor below me. nice surprises! and who says food at raffles place is necessarily expensive? i just found this bowl of prawn mee that costs only three bucks and its really quite good!

All that said, work really really drains me completely. at the end of the day, the only thing thats on my mind is my bed and all other commitments in my life just seem to fade to grey. i can't imagine needing to work like this for the rest of my life. i can't imagine my pay check being my only incentive to tide me through. where will all the drive and passion that i shall need come from?

just glad this week's almost over, and am thankful the people in this firm have been very warm, friendly, and helpful. looking forward to sleeping in till late this long weekend. till then.

Hey girlie! I'm finally back at your blog. Grr. Kept typing ~authenticbeauty.blogspot.com and getting error signs. Then I realised. Hmm. Could have been a - and tried it. Here I am. The woes of no bookmarks.

The sitting in on court trials bit sounds really fun. But of course, there are the grey boring stuff. But you know. I really believe that you are made for exciting things. We all are. God's plans are the best for us. Press on dearie. Hugs...
